Medication Policy:
Baltimore County Public School's policy states that all prescription and non-prescription medication taken in school must be accompanied by a written order signed by a physician/nurse practitioner/dentist. This policy applies to both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, except certain OTC medicines covered under the approved discretionary medication policy.
All students should have received a discretionary medication form the first week of school. This form should be completed by parents/guardians and returned to the school nurse.
Prescription medicines must be in a current prescription bottle, labeled with the name of the medicine, dosage, time of administration, the student's name, and the doctor's name. Your pharmacist can provide you with two labeled bottles, one to keep in the school and one for use at home. Some students may need to carry an inhaler or epi-pen with them. The school nurse must be made aware of this and a physician's order must be kept on file with the nurse. Please remember a parent or guardian must bring the medicine to the school nurse; the first dose of a new medicine should always be given at home.
Any leftover medication that is not picked up at end of the school year will be discarded.
