The MD State Seal of Biliteracy
The Maryland State Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students graduating from a BCPS high school who demonstrate proficiency in English AND an intermediate high proficiency level or better in a language other than English.
Proficiency in English can be measured through student scores on the MCAP ELA 10 exam, the WIDA Access exam, the AP English Language or Literature Exam, or the ACT English exam (see current list of exams and qualifying scores on the MD State Seal of Biliteracy webpage linked below).
Proficiency in a language other than English can be determined in one of two ways:
1) By earning a score of 4 or 5 on a College Board AP World Language and Culture Exam : Spanish, French, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Italian, Japanese
2) By earning a composite score of intermediate high or better on an approved ACTFL Exam (see current list of exams and qualifying scores on the MD State Seal of Biliteracy webpage linked below).
Currently, we offer students the opportunity to take the Avant STAMP 4S, WS or SuperLanguages exam, depending on the language tested. These exams are offered in the first semester to native/heritage students and in the second semester to students enrolled in Spanish or French 5GT (see link below for more information about these exams).
