The MD State Seal of Biliteracy / AAPPL Exam

Seal of Biliteracy

The Maryland State Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who demonstrate an intermediate high proficiency level or higher in a language other than English.

Interested students can earn the Seal in one of three ways: 

 1) By earning a score of 4 or 5 on a College Board AP World Language and Culture Exam
Languages:  Spanish, French, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Italian, Japanese

2) By earning a composite score of I5 or higher on the ACTFL AAPPL Exam
Languages:  Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin),French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

3) By earning a composite score of I5 or higher on the ACTFL OPI & WPT for the Seal of Biliteracy Exam
Languages: Albanian, Amharic, Bangla, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, and Yoruba
